1. Centennial Parklands, Sydney
Is there a better way to spend a sunny day?
Sydney’s most iconic picnic area for generations, Centennial Parklands is 4km stretch of leafy fields found at the centre of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
This enjoyable location is perfect to relax, enjoy some time outdoors or shed some of those excess calories you had planned during your time away from home.
What is greatest about this, Centennial Parklands is open to the public from 6.30am > 5.30pm daily. You can find BBQ facilities, pedal bike hire, horse riding and cafe’s dotted through out what is Sydney’s largest urban green space.
Centennial Parklands is only a 20 minute walk from our door step; a great excuse to soak up the leafy streets of Randwick as you make your way there.
If walking is not on the agenda, public buses are always available from Belmore Road every five minutes to Moore Park. By car, you can find timed parking spaces within Centennial Park, taking around 10 minutes drive from The Alison Randwick.
2. Coogee Beach, Sydney
Our most gorgeous and relaxed coastal suburb… Coogee plays home to one of Sydney’s most famous golden sandy beaches.
It its these types of waterfront locations that makes Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs famous right around the world!
With a wide, clean and ‘free to use’ sandy beach, this laid back atmosphere found in Coogee surely appeals to everyone, from surfers to families.
You can find a lot of eateries and take away options opposite to the beach and in Coogee’s surrounding streets. Alfresco cafes, bars and pubs flank the area alongside coastal shopping boutiques and local supermarkets. Arguably one of the most famous watering holes is Coogee Pavilion which boasts a terrific roof top, well priced wood fired pizzas and great tunes! Sunday is certainly the best day here to get amongst the locals or simply sit back and enjoy some colourful people watching.
Reached Coogee beach within 20 minutes by walking or 10 minutes by bus.
A trip to Coogee for sunrise, sunset or the entire day will see you return revived, refreshed and dosed up on some of Sydney’s favourite Vitamin D!
A secret locals tip… check out Wylie’s Baths when you’re next this way. They are a little hidden but are worth the find, and we too suggest you check their website out directly for opening hours and entrance fees.
These Euro-style tidal swimming pools are located just 10 mins from the sands of Coogee and are one of the first swimming baths to celebrate mixed gender swimming in Australia! You won’t be disappointed.
3. The Coogee to Bondi, Coastal Walk
You can choose either starting point, but being in Randwick we do suggest it closer to commence in Coogeee.
This is a MUST SEE during your time in Sydney and well worth the trip.
Extending for 6km, this stunning walk delivers on breathtaking cliff top views ocean views, rock pools bays and parks. The Coastal Walk offers an excellent opportunity to do some exercise while outdoors; including its own public outdoor gym equipment that can be found along the way!
With multiple stops and lookouts on the way, the walk one way will take between 1.5-2hours depending on how often you stop to take in the surrounds and grab that next pic.
Bronte Beach, Tamarama Beach, Gordons Bay and Clovelly Beach are all found along this memorable adventure and can act as good points to stop all be it you don’t wish to complete the entire trip.
There are buses every five minutes that can complete the loop from both Bondi and Coogee that will return you back to Coogee, and or Bondi depending on your direction of travel.
Or, the alternative to return would be a taxi or Uber easily arranged at either point costing no more than approx. $10-$15… we promise we won’t tell anyone!
4. Royal Randwick Racecourse Australian Turf Club
The Alison delivers the perfect accommodation during Sydney’s racing season.
Just 10 minutes by foot from this world class entertainment venue in Randwick, there is no doubt that The Alison is a favorite for race-goers, breeders, jockeys and racing folk all year round.
Being the longest standing racing venue, the Royal Randwick Racecourse has been a part of Australian culture since 1833. It’s sweeping racing green and state of the art facilities make it a true standout on the Australian racing calendar.
If you have heels on and walking may be that little too ambitious for you, taxi or uber will cost you under $10 and collect you straight from our doorstep.
5. The Spot, Randwick
If you are on the hunt to find small boutique bars, local eats and a bit of suburban vibe this is the place to check out.
Popular during both the day and night, find cultured tapas bars, local cafe’s, ‘hole in the wall’ drinking hubs, and our favourite – the infamous art deco ‘The Ritz’ cinema. Think plush vintage carpets, designer staircases, a retro cocktail lounge and a list of films displayed in flashing cinematic lights; this takes living like a local to a whole new era.
Found at the junctions of Perouse Road and St Pauls Street, walking to The Spot in Randwick will take you no longer than 15 mins by foot.
It would be timely to also mention our friendly Guest Services team love a good coffee and sweet treat every now and then so we will be sure to tell you when we are heading there next.
